The ESCoP 2022 conference is committed to being eco-responsible. As everyone can do a little for the planet, and as these small gestures make big successes, we propose a « carbon prize » rewarding the choice of using the most ecological means of transports.
Different modes of transport are possible for you to get to Lille from your place of residence. For example, choosing the train instead of the car or the plane, or cycling a part of the journey are all virtuous initiatives that we wish to reward during the ESCOP 2022 conference.
A ranking between participants registered to the “carbon prize” application will be made based on the ratio of carbon emission / distance traveled according to their mode of travel. In case of participants being equal, a random draw will be made.
The winner will receive a voucher worth 200 euros from an accommodation booking website. The voucher will allow the booking of an environmentally friendly home including 100% Renewable Energy, Organic or Local Food, and Car-free accessibility and the booked home can be made in many countries.
Even if you do not want to participate in the carbon prize, we encourage you to take some time to think about the most virtuous way to travel to Lille: is it worth to take the plane instead of the train, if it is only to save an hour? Wouldn’t public transports be better than the cab, especially for short distances? You are invited to use the calculator created by the ADEME as a comparator, to help you planning your journey.
How to participate?
To be eligible for the « carbon prize » application, you must live more than 1000 km from Lille.
If so, you will be asked to enter the following information at registration: 1) City of origin; 2) total traveling distance, 3) Mean(s) of transport, and 4) Total carbon emissions.
You can compute your total traveling distance and carbon emission using the calculator created by the ADEME, the French agency for ecological transition: https://monimpacttransport.fr/itineraire
This official tool is in French but very easy to use even for non-French speakers.
How to use the travel calculator?
The ADEME tool calculates the greenhouse gaz emissions over a given distance for different kind of transports.
Once you enter your city of departure and your destination, the tool gives you an estimation of the greenhouse gaz emissions for 6 means of transportation: train (“TGV ou intercités”), electric car (“voiture électrique”), bus (“autocar”), plane (“avion”), motorbike (“moto”) and car with an internal combustion engine (“voiture thermique”). Car sharing indications are also available (“covoiturage”). Select your mean of transport.
